Paris Saint-Germain Overcomes Olympique de Marseille in a Shootout to Claim Trophee des Champions Season-Opening Trophy in Kuwait.

Trophy celebration scene

PSG has now secured the prestigious cup on 14 different times.

Paris Saint-Germain needed a dramatic leveler followed by a perfect penalty shootout to overcome their arch-rivals in the Gulf and secure a record-extending fourth consecutive French Super Cup title.

The Champions League holders seemed to be coasting towards a straightforward triumph in the showdown featuring the Ligue 1 champions and the Coupe de France winners after Ousmane Dembele found the net early on.

Yet, Marseille fired twice late to take a surprise lead. Initially, the English forward scored from the penalty spot, before Willian Pacho unfortunately directed the ball into his own net for an own goal.

In a remarkable twist of fortune, Goncalo Ramos snatched a crucial leveler in the dying seconds to send the match into a penalty shootout. PSG goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier then emerged as the hero, saving decisive attempts from O'Riley and Traore.

In the shootout, Ramos, the midfielder, Nuno Mendes, and the young talent all scored successfully for PSG to seal a convincing penalty win.

Now 14-time winners Paris Saint-Germain, who met last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Marseille after achieving a league and cup double, have now lifted this trophy for the 12th time in the past thirteen seasons.
