Critical Role Season Four Reveals the Soldiers Group

Ever since the premiere of the fourth campaign, fresh DM Brennan Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with deep backstory, a colorful mix of heroes, and a gripping narrative showcasing angels, demons, and sinister influences growing in influence within the city.

Warning: Spoilers for the third episode of this adventure are included.

The Warrior Group Introduced

The latest chapter concluded with a dramatic pause and presented the first table of adventurers who will split off from the primary party to begin their separate journey, separate from the additional parties.

This warrior group includes Teor (played by Travis Willingham), Thimble (the talented performer), the fierce warrior (Whitney), Wicander Halovar (Sam), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie Daymond).

Dividing the Cast

With an extensive roster, it was evident from the outset that maintaining everyone at a single group would be unfeasible.

This explains, the opening chapters of this story serve as an Prelude, connecting the individual narratives before dividing into three separate parties: Warriors, Planners, and Explorers.

What Defines the Warrior Group

As described by the DM, the warrior group is for participants who enjoy a traditionally charged combat and conflict-driven gameplay experience where non-violent answers are few and far between.

At first glance, figures such as the hesitant healer Wicander Halovar might appear unsuited, but the events of episode 3 show why these specific adventurers are best suited for the Soldiers table.

Motivations for Departure

First, the team has a clear idea where to go next after a violent initial meeting with The Crow Keepers.

A former ally of Thjazi Fang—whose death initiated the campaign’s events—exploited the enemy for his personal gain, entering the hidden lair, striking the rogue, and taking all the enchanted items to auction.

Casimir then cleared his debts and fled to a secure base in the remote area, above the city, with Cyd Pridesire pursuing him.

Personal Motivations

Moreover, each adventurer has a individual motive to leave the city Dol-Makjar:

  • Thimble, as the companion and closest confidant, wants vengeance.
  • Kattigan has experience in the region and warns that it is a nasty environment.
  • The strong character and Wicander, having resisted his relatives’ demands to execute the fighter and instead saved him, have nowhere else to go.
  • Yet, their status as key figures in House Halovar could enable the team enter areas they usually can’t.
  • Additionally, Teor swore a eternal obligation to The cleric for his rescue and will now follow him anywhere.

Wanted and Hunted

In addition, all of them are wanted by the powers that control Dol-Makjar for a variety of reasons, making staying in the city dangerous:

  • Thimble and The character are notorious outlaws.
  • The strong figure and The healer turned against the powerful family and the horde of evil beings they are allied with.
  • The fighter is marked for death by the family.

This leaves them little choice but to journey toward the remote area in search of Casimir.

Future Episodes

From the recent installment’s Cooldown, we discover that the warrior group won’t be around the following episode, leaving the other eight players to assemble the Explorers and Strategists tables.

Viewers can look forward to finding out which characters will be assigned to which table in the story’s final introductory chapter, available to watch on October 24.
